LARGO — A Largo woman, armed with a stun gun, celebrated her 59th birthday in an unusual way Sunday.
Rose Tyrka pulled the weapon on an employee at a Shell gas station at 2400 East Bay Drive about 5 p.m., according to arrest reports.
After taking $130 from the cash register, Tyrka used the stun gun on the employee, striking him in the abdomen, the reports said.
The robbery was caught on video surveillance.
Four hours later, Tyrka entered a Subway sandwich shop at 11180 66th St. N in Pinellas Park, ordered a sub, then pulled the stun gun on a woman working behind the counter and demanded cash, according to the reports. The woman was able to get away before Tyrka could steal any cash, the reports said.
Tyrka was arrested Tuesday after detectives got a search warrant for her vehicle and found evidence linking her to the crimes, the reports said.
Police say Tyrka admitted to the crimes and said she is addicted to pain medication and that she needed the money to buy fentanyl patches.
She was charged with felony counts of robbery with a weapon and attempted robbery with a weapon. She is being held in the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail.
An employee at the Shell station said Wednesday that the employee, who was not named in the report, quit after the incident.
