The Sweet Bitterness of...Petition AGAINST Chris Brown

Although we still do not know the facts, the message being sent in the mainstream media is that Chris Brown beat his girlfriend Rihanna. Whether it is true or not, the children of our country have heard this message. You may or may not know that Chris Brown is nominated for several awards for Nickelodeon's Kids Choice Awards. He has voluntarily removed himself from involvement with the show, which was to include a performance. However, we need to make sure he is not involved, and that both Nickelodeon and their parent company Viacom know how the general public feels about his involvement with the show. If you are so inclined, follow this link to sign a petition against Chris Brown's involvement with the Kids Choice Awards. Please note that the petition also mentions Rihanna being removed from the show because of her continued relationship with Chris Brown. I generally would not want to side against a victim of abuse, but in this case she is sending the wrong message by continuing her relationship with Brown.

Rewarding him with any award or recognition will send the message that it is ok to hit and humiliate another human being, and not only will you not be punished, but you will be handsomely rewarded. This is a message that will further perpetuate the cycle of abuse that many women and children suffer through, and this message cannot be allowed to reach our children. The cycle must be broken.

Any man who hits a woman is no man at all. He is a coward, and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Thanks. I will step down off my soap box now.
