I am sad today. The musical Rent is closing this Sunday, after twelve successful years on Broadway. The award-winning 1996 musical chronicles the struggles of a group of young artists in New York and was groundbreaking in bringing topics such as AIDS into the mainstream.
I never did get to see the play in New York, but I did see it on tour, and it was spectacular! I can listen to the soundtrack over and over over - from the play, not the film. I didn't really even care for the film at first, just because it seemed to come out of nowhere, but it eventually grew on me too.
