The Bridge

I am often teased about my love of horribly depressing documentaries. Scoff if you must, but these documentaties are some of the best films I have ever seen.

I found myself unable to sleep last night and in front of the TV at 4AM, and there it was...The Bridge. Producer and Director Eric Steel and his crew spent all of 2004 filming the Golden Gate Bridge. They filmed nearly all daylight hours, and they captured most of the two dozen people who jumped from the bridge that year. More people go to the Golden Gate Bridge to end their lives than any other place on earth.

It was stunning and brutal to see the beautiful bridge and the surrounding landscapes, and then to see someone climb over the rail and jump. The interviews with the families of those who jumped, the witnesses who happened to be there when someone jumped, those who prevented someone from jumping, and even those who jumped and survived were moving. Depressing, yes. But a hauntinlgy beautiful film none the less.

Drum isnt morbid, he is intrigued about human behavior. I saw this movie, and it was a like a bad accident. You were memorized, and could not look away.
